Raw file problem - seen this before?

The top one is the problem - the bottom one is a random different photo for reference (how photos usually look).

This is a file that was sent to me. There are two of them, actually. It's strangely "blocky" as you can see. I've shown it at 200% here, but it's also visible at 100%.

CR2 file from a 5D mark II

Has anyone seen this problem before? Some kind of file corruption?

Heh! Either the sensor or it was shot through a window/door screen. If you look closely you'll see that there are both vertical and less noticeable horizontal lines...

I wrote to the person who took the images, and she looked through the entire set, and said that this problem was only exhibited on the ones that she badly overexposed.

I'm not sure what that tells us :\

Funny how you see something for the first time, then you see it again in quick succession!

Since I posted this thread, I've seen the issue again twice.

Out of the three, two of them were Canon 5D Mark IIs, and one was a Nikon D90. All three had that really strong haze or flare, just like Panopeeper said in the Point 2 that René linked above.

Bugger!

Tried DPP, problem still there.

Funny, though, because the equivalent Jpeg (shot raw + jpeg) didn't have the problem.
