My daughter Sylvia was the only sixth grade girl to make it to Districts this year. She swam the 100 yard backstroke.

400DO on a 1D4.

They look good and she must be a good swimmer, but I'm partial to backstrokers. I wish I could shoot outdoor swimming, indoor pools have some of the worst lighting ever.

I think the angled photo would have benefited from being angled in the other direction. So the left side of the frame was parallel to your daughter's right extended arm. The current angle makes me dizzy and feels a bit unnatural.

Were these indoor shots? If so, this may just be the BEST lite pool EVER. ISO 200, f4, 1/2000... holy crap!

The 400DO is amazing. I've barely seen shots with this lens. I'm pretty much amazed. How much post did these have?

Many thanks for the comments, guys. I do appreciate the feedback. Yes, this was a mid-morning outdoor meet. I was shooting towards the sun. Though there was a bit of haze and overcast.

On the PP: shot in RAW, converted with Bridge's RAW converter, nothing fancy there, no sharpening, in PS I used Alien Skin's Exposure 3 color film filter -Kodachrome 25 (sharp)- and then I sharpened with Nik Software's Sharpener Pro 3.0 output sharpener.

Here's one more from the meet that I like.

Thanks Mark! The swim coach gave me a deck pass for this meet. In return she gets free photos for the team scrap book.

Other than the crazy angle, the second photo in the original post is really nice.

Awesome shot but I agree with you, the angle is disorienting and I got dizzy looking at it as well. Parallel arm to the frame would have been better.

Nice shots. I like the focus on the backstroke race start - very nice to have just one swimmer in focus and good detail and color.

Wonderful shots. My daughter recently joined a swim team, so we are new to competitive swimming.
