...it's almost been a year since i received my rebel and kit lens. after spending hours on this website, i eventually learned that there is more to taking a "good" picture than just pointing and clicking. so i would like get some feedback and see if i am applying what i have read/learned properly. exposure, framing, anything else that needs improvement.

thanks

I think everything is great except the posing. Only one leg is visible! That just looks wrong to me. Also, the position of the purse makes that more of a focus point than her.

I like it. Here it is with a bit of a crop. I felt my eye wanted to sway right along the rail for some reason. I think this puts the viewer (or me) back on the whole shot.

...thank, it does look a bit awkward. this was a candid shot of a lady sitting alone on her cell phone. pay more attention to details, i guess it takes a little bit more time and patience to have a trained eye.

...thanks for the edit. comparing the two shots, the photo is a bit busy with several subjects. my eyes are drawn between the city and the lady on the bench. i really don't have an idea of what i am trying to get the viewer to focus on.

I really like this. I would agree about the comment on the point of focus however.

I don't really have any C+C but I just wanted to ask you how you got such a balanced exposure? The river also seems really smooth. Did you take various shots and merge them?

However you did it, it turned out great.
