Hi I have a 450d with the 18-55mm lens, I was wondering how good a picture of andromeda I will be able to get. Has anyone got any using this lens to show? or do I really need a bigger lens?

upper right of photo...mind you this was my first attempt at stacking and the focus is slightly off...but should give you an idea of what to expect.

IIRC this is a single 4 minute 55mm (18-55 kit lens)exposure with the Long Exposure Noise Reduction setting enabled. I piggybacked on our 16".

IIRC this is a single 8 minute exposure with the same settings. I use a Canon T2i.

I am pretty happy with these results. I'm just now beginning my astrophotography hobby.

If it's wet, sticky & not yours... don't touch it!
