I had to micro adjust my new 24-70 a little (-2) to make it focus. Which means it won't work with my back-up camera. Should I return it or send it to Canon?

If it is brand new and you can return it then that seems like the easiest decision to me....

MFA is dependent on both the camera and the body, so it may work fine on your backup. You won't know without trying it.

MA of -2 is acceptable. Just be sure it is OK on all the individual focal lengths (24, 35, 50, 70mm) with that particular value. MA is a feature of one body + lens combination. So, it won't affect your back-up body.

If you don't trust it, I would sent it in to Canon Service. Calibration is free under warranty. In the end it saves much more time and effort than playing the good-copy-bad-copy roulette game.

It may work fine with your backup body! It varies body to body, it maybe -2 on your primary but it doesn't mean it will be -2 on your backup body!

Thank you all. I'll try it out before I decide to return or service.

I think everyone here is assuming you do realise that when you MA a lens it does not actually change anything in the lens, It's a body software adjustment.
Therefore the lens is still the same on a different body, so if your backup body has MA you can adjust for that body also.

If your backup body does not have MA then you will have to get the lens focusing on this body first and then MA if required on your other body.
