Good Morning.

I just bought a Wacom pad bundled with LR3 and the ability to download Elements 9. Adobe has a short term offer to upgrade the Elements9 software to CS5 at a cost of $299.

My question is whether the bundled LR3 and, if I get the upgrade of CS5, will these be upgradable in the future when new versions of LR and CS come out?

Thanks
Ralph

PS: I can't figure out how to get my software key (serial number) for the bundled LR. I'm gonna call Wacom.

Yes, they should be upgradeable assuming you purchased through an authorized supplier. I don't know how long the offer lasts, but CS6 is probably right around the corner. It would be nice if you could upgrade straight to that.

Note that the CS6 upgrade model changes. You must have CS5 to upgrade to CS6, else you have to pay full price.

Tim

Thanks for that piece of information. I was thinking that the upgrades had to be done consecutively. I think a regular copy of CS6 at about $700, so $300 now for CS5, then $150 or so for the CS6 upgrade makes sense.

That sucks.
So to use CS6 from CS4 you have to upgrade for $400?

Wonder how many people will turn to piracy.

Or signing up to a college course to qualify for academic pricing.

I thought academic pricing only applied to full-time students (12 hours, or equivalent).

Nope.

Am I eligible?

The following individuals are eligible to purchase Adobe Student and Teacher Editions:

  • University and college students — students enrolled at a higher education institution defined as an accredited
public or private university or college (including community, junior, or vocational college) that grants degrees
requiring not less than the equivalent of two years of full-time study
  • Primary and secondary school students — students enrolled at an accredited public or private primary or
    secondary school providing full-time instruction
  • Faculty and staff — teachers and staff employed by an accredited primary or secondary school, public or private university or college, school district, or board of education (including emeritus status professors)
  • Homeschooled students and their teachers — students and teachers as defined by country homeschooling regulations

Ah.... so, "enrolled" is the keyword. I actually was thinking of taking extended education courses through my school, but I think that's a way to take the classes and not be enrolled. Of course, this wasn't to get cheap software. My son will start school soon. I can always fall back on that I guess if I had to. Haha.

This shift in Adobe policy is also being discussed in the thread labeled Adobe Does Evil in the General Photography Talk forum.
