I have been looking at the PhotxPro LS16 boom lighting stand and was wondering if anyone on here has experience of them and could let me know if they're any good for the price.

This one: http://www.ebay.co.uk …_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 (external link)

I'm not proposing to hang anything too expensive or heavy off the end of it (only a small flash and softbox), so I'm hoping it might be up to the job.

Thanks,

Mike

:-)

Been looking at one of these myself. They look okay and I guess will do what it says on the tin.

Go on, get one. You know you want to! Go on, go on, go on!

Then let me know if it's any good!

If it does what it says on the tin then I would be a bit wary. Part of its name suggests it might explode!

currently in the market for a boom stand myself. been looking on ebay and noticed the lencarta combi stands are on there for a considerable saving (£50 ish)

Also got my eye on the Manfrotto 420B as Jessops sell them and i have tesco clubcard voucher to get rid of :)

The Manfrotto 420B at Jessops looks nice, but it's £100 more than the eBay PhotxPro. I expect there's a good reason for the price difference, but I'm still tempted to take a risk on the cheap option.

That's good to hear!

Actually I forgot all about it as I got sidetracked buying some wireless triggers and old flashes. I'd like to get one if I can find one, but they seem to have disappeared now, which is typical!

Golden rule - buy it when you see it if it's a good deal! ;)

I bought mine on Wednesday and it arrived today, I was so impressed by the structural quality (it's not at all flimsy like some cheap stands you can buy) that I went straight to Amazon to order another with an indicated 3 left... They rang me back apologetically to say that they'd just ran out as they were selling so well and the stock level was wrong :(, which is most probably why you can't see them anymore.

I'll let you know if they get them back in or I find them elsewhere.

Did you get radio triggers? I'm looking for a set too at a reasonable price, any suggestions for brands?

Thanks for that. If they become available I had better get one before they disappear again!

For the radio triggers, after much reading I went for the Yongnuo RF-603C units, plus a 2.5mm to C3 coiled lead (for using as a remote shutter trigger). I got them from Cotswold Photo on eBay (http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/cotswoldphoto/ (external link)) who was really helpful.

I also got a 24" twin-diffuser softbox from him, plus a couple of other bits. I had a problem with one of the softbox bracket retaining screw plastic heads breaking off but he sorted it out straight away and put a replacement one in the post to me which arrived the next day. Good service!
