Just curious when everyone thinks the next iteration of the 5D line will be released. I know there are differing opinions on what it will be or even what it will be called... but whatever it is, and if you were a betting man or woman, when would guess it would be released?

^ Alright fair enough, and that may be true, but so far we've got some optimistic voters like myself betting on something in 2012. If nothing else I just thought it would be interesting to see how the actual release date, assuming that happens, compares to predictions.

I think Canon will wait and see whether the Mayans were right or not...

Don't judge most releases by the current 1DX cycle...

Canon is using an unusually long lead time on the 1DX in order to develop buzz before the London Olympics.

Maybe in time for next years Olympics, but they will have to get a move on.

well, they dont really aim the 5D series for sports (unless they change it with mark 3?) so I dont think the Olympics are important for the launch of this camera..

Wont be released until 2013. Canon has to fix the big hole it created in its line up with the loss of the 1DMkiV.....look for a new model to be priced in that area to fill the gap. If it is gonna be enough camera to replace the 1DMKIV will be a lot to ask. I think canon is playing with fire here. Going to be interesting. They will never out a full frame in the hole. They will never get anyone to buy a 1.6 format for that hole.

1.3 format is the logical choice. What ever they do, they will need to do it right or the NIKON camp is going to get a lot bigger. I really think canon is taking the professional photography crowd with a grain of salt right now. Its not on their priority list it seems to me.They are playing take it or leave it. They dont fill this price gap right,,, they are going to loose a lot of photographers. Im getting a 1DMKIV while i can and im gonna wait it out for the next 3-4 years. Im not ready to jump ship right now.

I don't see an option that says "Will Never Come Out".

This is because there is speculation of a 4D or perhaps 3D camera to take the place of the 5Dmk2
