This waterfall is a few miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. There are actually five waterfalls in this stream, if you are willing to walk two miles up the mountain trail. That was my plan until it started raining. Notice the railing at the official overlook near the top right. To get both tiers, I had to go off-trail and rock-hop a bit. That's when the rain started.

I like the richness of the colors in this one Stan. I know you probably took the time to level the shot, but it just looks a bit tilted. Funny how that is...

Appreciate your viewing. It is level, but I understand your comment.

Beautiful color Stan, I see what Argyle is saying but the trees looks right :) Some scenes (waterfalls especially) just do that to you. I sit and look at mine forever sometimes trying to figure out if something is off...knowing I had it level..lol.

Thanks, Bruce. I do use a bubble level (most of the time). The fence posts also appear to be plumb, another indicator.

Yeah, I have a few of those in my collection, too. :D

Perfect shutter speed for the water, IMO. How slow did you go and did you use an ND filter? Thanks, nice shot!

Gorgeous shot, Stan. No fun jumping across rain-wet rocks, is it? ;)

That's just lovely, Stan. Doesn't look tilted to me.

This has turned out to be an interesting and fun thread. All your comments are appreciated and welcome. I never thought much about it, but waterfall shots can sometimes be misleading. Truth is, I really don't care if it's level as long as the composition is pleasing. Still, I start from the automatic inclination to level the camera before shooting.

Dave, it was 2.5 seconds at f18, no ND filter needed as it was a dark day and rain started as I was shooting. I think rain always enhances the greens, but I really don't try for it. I'm pretty sure I used a CPL, just because that's my norm when shooting water.

Yes, Ian, at my age I worry how it might look when I take the plunge, but that concern rarely stops me.

Thanks, everyone, for your positive comments.

This was taken on 9/15, before any fall color. Is that what you meant?

I was there 10/8 so... 3 weeks after you, when the leaves had started to change...

Yeah, by then I was deep into WV, enjoying the fall colors there. Wish I had been able to hike up to Crabtree Meadows.
