hello i have been searching around for a while and i see that my colors are off by a little.

1. if i print from the easyphotoprint software that came with the printer, it is a hassle since id have convert every raw into jpeg and still the color is off by a little bit.

2. if i print from lr2, the color is off by EVEN MORE. i chose management icc pr2 in lr2, but in print options i also chose the media type to be canon pro photo paper. i dont know if it the printer and lr2 trying to manage color at the same time. i read that i should just let lr2 manage the color alone. i think thats correct bc if i turn off lr2 color management, its even worse.

3. im not sure how to make sure we are looking at sRGB or adobeRGB for both the printer and lr2. is that important?

thank you!

What exact settings used (screenshots)? What paper and ink? What OS?
Here's one step by step.

Sounds right for LR…
Did you set "Glossy photo paper" as media?
Also check the "quality" slider mentioned here: http://albertdebruijn.com/home/archives/193 (external link)

Yes, gloss also in printing options as well as in lr2. But there is no problem if both printer and lightroom have control over color management or is one automatically overriding the other? so, its supposed to be right? i have to buy a monitor calibrator?

i just turned off color management using the link u gave. where is color space in the print settings or lightroom? even after turning color management off in print settings, these 2 still have to match right?

No idea about the windows side. In newer versions of OSX, CM should be switched off in the printer driver automatically...

If you let LR do the color managing, that is where you choose the proper .icc profile.

The color spaces should be fine. In fact, LR operates in its own color space. Things get translated between LR and the printer driver.

So you say that you did turn off color managing in the printer driver? That is necessary if you have LR manage colors. Otherwise you are subjecting the image to "dual processing", which can be quite messy.

But, you asked an important question: Do you need a monitor calibrator?

The answer is that if you are going to be "picky" about print colors, absolutely! You may take a print of yours into really good light and show it to someone and they might say "that looks great!". And, for most purposes it likely is. But, when you are looking to print color images that match what you view on screen, well, if your screen isn't calibrated to a "standard", then things will likely not match and it could drive you nuts!

I am not sure how critical you are but the usual procedure is:

1) Calibrate & profile the monitor using a hardware calibrator.
2) Profile the printer with every ink/printer/paper combo using a hardware calibrator.
3) Setup the OS properly.
4) Don't double profile. Use either the software or the printer to manage colour correction, but not both.

Now, if you haven't done #1, you are wasting time trying anything else. Adding to the confusion, the hardware calibrators can be off and not every monitor can be precisely calibrated.

The color space is "Profile Canon Pro9000 Mark II series PR2". That profile describes the printer's space and LR converts from the image's space (provided it has an embedded profile if it is a jpg) to the printer space. If the source is a RAW file the conversion is from LR's internal space to the printer space.

Missed that part.
Yeah, that explains it.
