Well I've got to say that I meet my match with this little one. I spent 3.5 hours with her yesterday and 2.5 hours with her today. Total time she slept was less than 30 minutes. It was by far the hardest session to date - I had to go back for a second time, but it paid off because I got the baby in the basket shot.

She was 14 days old and started to change her schedule. She was wide wake, feeding for an hour at a time or not the happiest...poor thing. This is why it is much easier to work with newborns under 10 days old....I'm going to push parents to book before 10 days from now on.

C & C welcome.

These are sooo sweet. And while I do love the hats (and bows, etc) that parents of baby girls are so prone to wanting to use, are there any of the baby without either?

I mean, yes - I loved cutesy shots like that, but I also always wanted a classic "nekked" (meaning no flashy props, clothes/hats, etc) shot to remember my babies by

The baby always goes into position first to shoot a naked shot, then hats & bows are added....background is changed and the process repeats.

Beautiful shot, and a happy looking baby too. Now I see the value of the shot without the hat.

We are having a baby in a few months, I am curious what are you using for a backdrop/ what is your setup?

The pink back drop is a small roll of seamless paper rolled out on the floor and draped over two kitchen chairs.

Beautiful baby and well done you!!! The only thing I can see is that her skin is quite pink. Check CMYK values in Cs. Way too much Magenta. Since you have Image Editing turned on I let my self do a quick edit. Would love to hear back from you. I find skin really realy difficult and would love others to chime in.

Hi Tommy,

I couldn't agree more that I had too much magenta in the skin tones. I was struggling with them on my new monitor....I think I have that worked out now. Oh ya...she was not sleeping, hence the red eye area. As for your adjustment, a little to yellowish for me....the baby looks jaundiced.

I have found a new way of doing it the last few weeks. This shot is straight out of the camera, no adjustments what so ever:

IMAGE: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u198/shanef1/IMG_9148.jpg

There are definitely red tones here in the face, but the shoulder area looks good. So I took it over to CS5, added a new layer, picked the colour picker and tapped her shoulder. Next I picked the brush, turned the opacity to 25% and painted here face area. This covered up some of the reds and matched the skin tones. At the same time, it smoothed the skin, but left texture. This shot has no sharpening what so ever, just the simple adjustment listed above.

I also fixed the white spot on the left and did the same thing with the white blanket as the skin - new layer, picked the colour picker, clicked on an area of white. Picked the brush, turned the opacity to 25% and brushed in the white blanket.

What do you think of this?

Hi Shane,

I have just come back from work and with my eyes refreshed and away from your picture for a good 8 hours I think my edit might be a little bit to yellow, however I must say lowering the opacity a tad and boosting the midtones would get you quite close. Also, it might look too yellow ( well I have just admitted it doeas:) but only when compared to an image next it with a strong magenta colour. I think your last edit has still too much pinkish in it.
I get so frustated with skin but I know that one day I will nail!:)
