I would like to have a TT5 on-camera, triggered by a handheld TT5 and triggering a 580EX II on a pole via a TT5. I can get this "relay" to work with Plus II's but not TT5's. The handheld TT5 will trigger the camera TT5 and that will cause the red light to come on in the 580EX TT5 but it does not flash. Pressing the 'test' button on the TT5 with triggers the flash. Anyone do this?

I've used relay dozens of times... don't recall the specific steps, but the pw website has some videos and instructions on how to set it up... there's some stuff to do in the pw utility too

Relay mode will work fine with the FlexTT5....just as long as the FlexTT5 is set to Basic triggering mode. If you want to use it in ControlTL mode (i.e. for E-TTL) then forget about also using it in relay mode. It's iffy at best and guaranteed to frustrate you to no end. If you need to use the FlexTT5 in ControlTL mode, use separate receiver to trigger the camera.

I'll go through and make sure all TT5's are in basic trigger mode and let you know.

don't set all of them - just the one on the receiver you are triggering

and you need a special cable to link body to TT5...

How are the other receivers going to work if they are not set to Basic Triggering mode also, or at least set to receive in the Standard channel?

I fail to see what relevance a MiniTT1 has to the discussion on this thread. Can you elaborate, please. :)

I have four Plus II's, three TT5s, a TT1 and two AC3s (because I thought I lost an AC3 and bought another ... then found the first.)

Leo, I think Ump was just jerking my chain because he does more by accident with what he has than I do on purpose with what I have, sigh. :-)

I'm going to peruse the PW site when I get a chance.

OK, I reset all TT5s to Factory Defaults; set TT5 with 580EX II to C2, set TT5 on camera to C1 and plugged in the fancy silver-tipped trigger cable; set TT5 in my hand to C1; test fired to initialize; and viola, it works as desired. Don't know what we did wrong initially. However, I did discover that this setup recovers very slowly after each firing!

That's because the FlexTT5 unit on the camera is too busy "chatting" with the FlexTT5 hooked up to the remote flash so it can't immediately respond to your hand trigger to actuate the camera again after it's just been actuated.

Well, since this application is likely manual I expect we'll go with Basic Trigger Mode and shut them all up! :-)
