There are a number of YouTube videos for this repair.
This one is on a 30D

part you're looking for is a CH9-0233-000 (switch, release) which is actually quite cheap (USD$8.12 from USCamera) but I think it's soldered to a ribbincable assembly cg2-1297-000 so you'd be up for some quite delicate de-soldering work to replace once you get the camera apart (which isn't really that difficult)

there's a really useful shutterswitch replacement tutorial here: http://dougkerr.net …s/20D_Shutter_Release.pdf (external link)

other useful DIY info would be Lifepixel's IR conversion tutorials (which are excellent showing how to disassemble Canons) 20D here: http://www.lifepixel.com …d-diy-tutorials/canon-20d (external link)

if all else fails, theres a canon service manual here: http://www.tradebit.com …20d-service-manual-repair (external link) which would be well worth the money spent if you're going down the DIY road, and really, given the age of the camera it wouldn't be economic to have Canon repair it.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:
