I came up with this bright idea to make myself a rail for macro and also i'm going to run it with a motor and do some time lapse pics, here are my first attempts at the macro

The rail is "OK" but needs a few tweeks in the next build, the threaded rod I've used is not the straightest and causes a bit of lateral movement, well I guess thats what R&D is all about

You ought to be ashamed of yourself! Posting such a noisy photo... :p

Seriously though, that is a great photo of the wasp, and that was done with that extraordinary rig!

Back to the noise... is there really a lot of noise in the spider photo?

Newer rig thingie, It's not finished, but here it is.

The rail isn't automated, actually its just a slider of types at the moment, I might run a threaded rod through it tomorow and see how that works, the light cost me $7 and is made from a bit of sign board machined to fit snugly on the end of my lens and then 24 4.9mm holes in it to hold the LED's, running off 4 rechargable AA batteries with nothing more than a couple of diodes to lower the voltage to safe levels.

I'll test it out tomorow.
