I have a friend who has 1000 - 2000 slides and wants to scan them - time is not a problem
However, I wondered what product would connect to a laptop USB 2

I have used a Nikon LS3 but that has a scsi interface and no longer works -

Please recommendations for current available kit - I would assume he may want a resolution to print A4 type size

Budget - not sure how much he wants to spend - but I mentioned a few £100 and he did not make a comment

I have had a look at the epson V500 - http://www.epson.co.uk …son-Perfection-V500-Photo (external link) any one any views

I guess it would cost around 50p-£1 to have them done locally

thanks

I am very interested too. Plus would appreciate comments on value of other methods. Thanks in advance...

(A concern for me...I live in Canada so would appreciate hearing if there are safe ways to ship slides for copying to businesses in other nations )

I'm happy with my Nikon Coolscan V using VueScan.

You can still get them used.

The Epson is okay as well.

Personally I would send them to ScanCafe (external link). They do a wonderful job for a reasonable price.

Scancafe is very interesting. You have personal experience using their service?

The Nikon Coolscan V is a great scanner. I just scanned a bunch of slides. They scan at a very high resolution and if they aren't scratched up they look really nice.

A Coolscan 5000 maybe, a V should be cheaper.
Bought mine new on eBay for about €400 a few years ago.
