As many of you may already know, when you use Google Maps (maps.google.com), you can use the Street View feature to get a 360ยบ street-level view of a particular spot on the map. Of course, not all places on the map have a street view but a lot do. The images used for the Street View feature were captured using what's called a 9-eyes camera in a project by Jon Rafman. There are a lot of interesting and unique images that were captured and these images are presented in:

http://9-eyes.com/ (external link)

I wasn't aware of this website until a few days ago when my sister emailed me and my brother a link to it. And since then, my brother and I have been competing with each other to see how many of the places those pictures were taken at we could identify using just the clues found in the images. We identified the locations of 19 images (see links of those images in 9-eyes below).

Since my brother and I were getting a kick out of sleuthing the locations of these images, I thought it might be fun to see how many images members here can identify also, using the clues in the images.

So, wannabe (or real) detectives, want to take on this challenge (note: this can be addicting!)? If so, look for clues in an image and follow up on that clue to discover the location where the picture was taken. Then go to Google map, display the same Street View image and take a screenshot of it. Post the screenshot here.

Let see how many locations you can identify. Good luck! :)

Just as a side note, Google Map has probably been updated multiple times since those images were taken so it may be possible that some of the locations where the pictures were taken may no longer be accessible view Street View as I discovered when chasing down the image of spiked cars in a shopping center parking lot. :|

[NOTE: If you know where the pictures were taken because you are familiar with the area, please refrain from answering until others have had a chance to figure it out first, say, after a week.]

The mosque name... :D

The name in Arabic or in Latin characters? I tried doing a Google search using the one in Latin character (I think that's the name of the mosque) and I got zip. However, my brother did a search using the street name on the little sign that is also on the wall and he got a hit. :)

Here's another one I found today. The picture found in 9-eyes.com is the one on the left with the monorail decorated with art. The Google Maps Street View image is on the right. And the Google Maps link:

http://maps.google.com …Q&cbp=11,274.97,,0,-10.12 (external link)

It took me a while to find this location even though I had passed through it several time because I was looking for that particular monorail in Google Maps Street View. It wasn't until I decided to look for that building in the background that I realized the Street View image had been updated (i.e. no more monorail). :|

For anybody interested (although it doesn't look like there are too many who are ;) ) the clue I used was the "C1" on the green sign and the white sign with the Japanese characters that told me that the image was probably shot somewhere in Japan although what the sign itself says is pretty useless. :)
