So i am looking for some opinions on the Canon Pixma 9000 Mark II. I have an opportunity to buy a brand new one for $80 (and no it's not stolen, just a very generous private seller). Anyhow, I have read varying reviews about it's ink usage and paper costs. Any real world opinions on this? Am I going to go broke buying supplies fro this printer? I really like the results I have seen from sample prints Canon has printed for me from my files.

I have one and it is definitely an ink-hog. Paper really doesn't cost very much assuming you will use standard Canon paper. It's just the ink. It's not unusual (for me) to have an ink tank run dry after printing 7 or 8 size 13x19 sheets. That said, other colors don't seem to get used very much and last a very long time. That is probably due to the colors I'm printing. In a nutshell, yes, it is an expensive printer to own, but yo do get the benefit of high-end lab quality photos and the ability to print off 13x19s at home. If you do not intend to print 13x19s, it probably not a good choice for you as most other home printers can print up to 8.5x11 and have much cheaper inks.

I have the first version. I think they are great. Yes it is an ink hog, but I think they all are. Canon paper gives me great pics. If you watch where you buy it you can get some good buys. Got 3 packs of 13x19 from canon for the price of one. Will last a very long time. If you buy the 4x6 in the 400 box you can save more.

I got mine for $200 shipped and thought it was a great deal. I really like the printer a lot. I don't print much B&W, but I am extremely happy with color prints. I mainly use Canon Photo paper plus glossy. Very happy with the paper. Shop around as you can get the paper at a good price.

The ink is expensive. I try to shop for out of date/old new stock on Ebay. But have bought carts from Adorama and B&H.

Printing at home does have its cost, but the convenience is great.

$80 for a NIB Pro 9000 II, I'd do that deal every day and twice on Sundays!!!

I just got one, new in-box for $175, then ordered the sample box of paper from Red River. I'm really impressed so far. All my printing up until now has been at the local Costco. I've used the recommended printer files suggested by Costco and was not happy with the quality.

The prints from the Pixma have been excellent. I have tried some papers that I would never have tried if I stayed with Costco, or even with a on-line lab and this has really opened my eyes to the possibilites of what I can do with printing.

I was one who questioned the value of these printers before I got one, primarily due to cost, but now I'm convinced this is the way to go.

So a little update. I bought the printer and the test prints i have done on standard size glossy paper have turned out great. It is the non-standard sizes and non-glossy I am having trouble with. How do I import different paper profiles? Also, how do I choose different paper sizes and textures from the standar list in the printer menu?

Here's how you do Red River. What paper profile are you trying to install?

Great printer, I seem to run through a lot of "photo magenta". Not the best for black and whites, but they turn out ok. Color prints are awesome.

In that case, if you're lucky the manufacturer of that paper has profiles for download. Otherwise you probably need to have a custom profile made.
