Anyone using a viewfinder magnifier on their camera? specifically on a FF?
Curious to hear opinions about the Tenpa viewfinder 1.22x or 1.36x on a FF, they say not to use the 1.36 on a FF though.

Never used one, always found the stock viewfinders on full frame Canons to be so big and bright already that I never felt the need. An extender might be nice though, but not necessary.

Magnification is used to improve focus accuracy, but it comes at the detriment of your loss of ability to see then entire viewfinder!

Yea, theres another good point I forgot about. When I use the Canon Angle Finder C on either magnification setting, I can no longer even see the entire viewfinder screen, which is very annoying to me.

gotcha, thanks for the heads up guys.
yeah i'm a little hesitant on getting one as online they go around 40-50$, was hoping it would help alot with MF although I agree, the 5Dc viewfinder has plenty of view with a MF lens already.

I'm using the tenpa 1.36x on my 7D and unless I shove my eye in there, I can't see the whole viewfinder. Not really much of a problem for me though, I'm used to moving around a little, or getting really in there :P

Thoughts...let's see. Well, I like it. The only real problem I have w/ it is how much it sticks out...pretty noticeable. It still fits in my bag ok, so it's a minor issue really.
I like the bigger viewfinder, and I can't really notice any difference in brightness if there is any (or rather I don't "remember" any difference in brightness...swapping it out to compare is annoying, so I won't do that).

I'm not sure if the bigger cup (I'm using the same) blocks the screen on the 5D mk II, but it barely covers the LCD screen on the 7D. Judging from back view comparisons on the-digital-picture.com (external link) of the viewfinder spacing between the lcd screen on different cameras, using the large cup on the 5D mk II may block the screen more than the 7D, but not as much as the 50D (in the video).

...and therefore a number of right angle finders provide a switchable magnification, with 2x for focus precision and 1x for framing when the camera eyepiece would be much too awkward to use in the conventional manner
