Any comparison between G series and S100?

I put an order for an S100 on Amazon and waiting for it. I was just wondering if anyone has done a comparison at high ISO between the G series (say G11 or G12) compared to the S100. I would be especially interested in low light, high ISO comparisons. I have both a G9 and G11 and use them with underwater housings for underwater pictures, but I find that the maximum reasonable ISO I can use is around ISO 200. I really would like something that can go ISO 800 as it would give more flexibility, and am thinking if I should get the S100 underwater housing.

Since the G12 and S95 share the same sensors,
if you ignore their lens' aperture differences,
and take notice of high ISO image quality alone,
you could take a look at the S95/S100 here:

Thanks for the link, very informative. But to be honest, my G11 high ISO pictures seem a lot worse than the S95 ... I didn't realize there was that much difference. The S100 is quite a bit better than the S95, but am still impressed with the S95 abilities ... especially with it being sold at a huge discount now. Of course the HD capability of the S100 would make it more desirable even with the price difference ... but the S95 seems like a steal at almost 25% less.

I just picked up an s100 and did some side by side comparisons with my s95. To me, at ISO 800 the s100 starts to pull away from the s95 just a tad, and at ISO 1600 the s100 is noticeably cleaner. The s95 caps out at ISO 1600 while the s100 goes to ISO 3200. ISO 3200 on the s100 is roughly equivalent with ISO 1600 on the s95, which is very valuable to me as I tend to use my S series indoors and at night more often than any other scenario (it's usually in my pocket when I'm out to dinner and doing stuff at night).

On the downside, the colors on the s100 are a little flatter than the s95.

There's no question that CMOS and CCD sensors capture the colours differently; why I don't know, but it seems to be a real phenomenon. You can't apply the same processing to one as you would the other and expect identical results.

Here they compare it to the G12 and a few other cameras. The S100 handles high ISO noise a bit better than the G12 and noticeably better than the other ones.

Wow, that really is exactly what I was looking for, I will have to bookmark this site. I can't believe that I am so excited about getting this little camera in the mail. It reminds me of the wait for the 5DII. Canon really shines in P&S and they seem to have a real winner with the S100. A G13 should also be a great item once it comes out.

I'm extremely excited as well... frustrated actually cause of the backorder! I haven't been this excited since I tried to order the Tammy 17-50 VC (which I cancelled after waiting 2 months, turns out reviews were not that great anyways) and excited about the Sigma 17-50 OS but ended up buying the 5D instead. Just tired of lugging gear around and I want to get more of the "in the moment" pictures which I can't seen to do with a giant camera.

When comparing the G12 to the s100 keep in mind that the lens speed on the s100 @f2.0 may allow you to shoot at a lower iso setting than on the G12 (2.8) therefore less noise. That is if you like to shoot at the wide end. Enjoying the photos, keep posting
