The storm season is upon us as summer approaches in the southern hemisphere. I love storms, just not the humid build up. I shot this about an hour ago in our backyard in Coffs Harbour. It seems a cross between an electrical storm and an A-bomb!

Cool shot man! Very dramatic. We had a pretty epic storm down here in Sydney the other night too.

Yep, you're right, I just wish it would rain. It's too hot, too early. Most probably means we're in for a cool, wet summer, just like last year, at least on the north coast.

Regards.

That's impressive and well timed. The colours are a little too pushed/saturated for my taste but still a great shot!

Very good comment. Before I took this shot, my daughter remarked on the amazing colours in the clouds when the lightning did it's thing. Unfortunately, it seems that the human eye is not quick enough to catch these striking colours, but thankfully the camera sensor (with a 30 second exposure) captures a lot more of the colour.

This is most probably closer to what the actual scene looked like:

That was a 30 second exposure?? Looks like the clouds were just roiling(Think that's the word) and would have been a blurry mess in that time span. I got a lot to learn about night and long exposure photography. That is an amazing shot-thanks for sharing!

I told a falsehood! It was actually not 30 secs, but 13 secs exposure. (I just checked the exif data). From that point on I shot at 30 seconds. Oooops...:)

As for "roiling", it was hot last night, so maybe the word is "broiling"?:)
