I'm hoping to get a boxing day deal on a new body. I've had my XTi for several years now but would like something new that also gives me the ability to tinker with video.

I've narrowed it down to the T3i and 60D.

From what I've read the advantages of the 60D are: 9 cross points, longer battery life, 2 LCD's, scroll wheel, and a better feel.

The advantage of the T3i is price.

I've been doing some pricing around and currently the cheapest I can find the T3i body (in Canada) is $650. And the cheapest 60D body I've seen is $999 (in Canada) although I have seen it as low as $850.

I could certainly use the $300+ difference for other things so at least today I'm leaning towards the T3i. Ask me tomorrow though and that could change. :)

Does anyone know if Canon has plans for a T3i replacement anytime soon? I'm thinking that if I hold out a little longer perhaps the T4i or whatever they call it will have some of the features of the current 60D.

Just did some looking around and it looks like the T4i will be released in Feb. 2012 but I can't seem to find much info on it.

That's because its a rumor and it may or may not be true...if it is true I wouldn't expect much of an update because thing typically roll into the rebels from the upper models...not the other way around.

As for the 60D vs. T3i, you forgot one of the biggest...better viewfinder. I don't know where you found those prices but make sure you are looking only at legit stores...that's a much bigger differential in price than we have in the states.

Sp we might see the 1Dx specs in a Rebel body, that would be nice!

Thanks, they're all legit stores. Despite the dollar being on par we get screwed up here with pricing, especially on things like vehicles and electronics.

I would say go to a store and try both out. My decision to go with the 60D was size. Holding the T2i/T3i didn't feel as good as when I held the 60D. Same could be said about the 7D and 60D but I couldn't pass on the deal I got on my 60D.

Have any relatives down in the States? A 60D body on the Canon Loyalty program is about US$630.

Look at the Rebel models that came after the 50D and then the ones that came after the 7D and you will see what I am talking about.

According to Canon Canada we do not have a loyalty program on the SLR's. It's only on the Point and Shoots. No relatives in the US.

I have a t3i and a 5dmkii and have used a friends 60d on many occasions.....

wish I would have bought the 60d... After looking through the 5dmkii and the 60d viewfinder the t3i feels almost toy like in comparison. The build of the t3i feels cheap by comparison, camera feels to small, is way to light.. put a nice lens on the camera and it becomes extremely front heavy, battery life sucks without using a grip and two batteries, the t3i is a fine camera but honestly I don't see the need for it in the market when they offer the 60d....

I don't shoot a lot of action shots so I can't comment for the af system of the 60d but it did feel nicer but that may just have been a placebo effect from the way the camera felt and I typically only use the center point and recompose

If you know you'll be doing video, the 60d may have advantages you'll prefer like manual audio and better ISO selection. Magic Lantern will certainly give the T3i the advange.
