What body are you using? If it is anything less than a 1D series you are going to lose AF when you use anything apart from the 70mm end. The reason is that you have to have 5.6 or wider for the AF to work (1D bodies will work at up to f8).

Hey Ronnie, if you use a Kenko 1.4 the AF will remain. Using a TC will be noticable but if you only use it now and then it's okay. Take a look at the 70-300 thread https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=941292some of us have used it. Like Eaglssong, Cagenuts and me.

You are getting good AF function with an f8 lens even on a non 1D camera or is it only in bright sunlight? Usually a Canon body won't allow af at all or does the Kenko not pass the info to the body so it still thinks it is just f5.6 so works if it finds enough contrast?

Hey Mark, In good light conditions or using higher ISO. The older TC from Kenko doesn't pass on the info, the newer onces pass on the lens length I'm not sure avout the aparture (out of my head) will have to search for that.

That's helpful as it gets past the f5.6 barrier that Canon puts in place. The Nikon guys get it easier as (at least on the older cameras) they are only limited by getting the contrast rather than the Camera saying 'this is a lens with a max aperture of f8 so I won't even try to AF'.

it's gonna make the AF crummy
and markedly reduce image quality, maybe it will be a little bit better than upscaling but i don't think that is a lens really meant for TCs
