Just wondering what a good brand of flash brackets are for a Gripped 5d and 7d.

I am tired of holding the flash in my left hand :) And was recommended to get a decent flash bracket. So what are you all using?

Mike

I LOVE my Custom Brackets Digital Pro-E with a Zeikos cord. Lightweight and very easy to use.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Newton Camera Brackets products www.newtoncamerabrackets.com (external link) can both fit cameras with and without a battery grip mounted, a simple adjustment allows same bracket to handle either configuration. Weighs 8 oz. but very sturdy, and very compact.

Newton...RRS...Custom Brackets are all pro grade products.

i got a bower bracket from amazon for 30$ that works fine and is built pretty well. i had to extend the bottom piece because the camera wouldn't fit vertically with my battery grip and flash trigger.

I'm heading to see Robert from Newton Camera Brackets later this week. The FR3 is the planned purchase. I'm looking forward to both the ability to switch easily from landscape to portrait with or without a flash.

Robert is talking to me about adding a second attachment point, using the threads already found on the side of the 580EX II. My Canon SB-E2 bracket has such a side attachment and I like the added security. I'll let you know how it works out.

I bought based on reviews of your posts on the Newton when doing research on a quality bracket. I had a few questions and after talking to Robert I was completely sold. Nice guy. Anyway thanks for taking the time to point folks in that direction, Wilt.
I could not be happier.

Wilt,

Robert says "hi".

I got back around 2 hours ago and am now the proud owner of an FR3 flash bracket. I couldn't be happier. I've been putting it though its paces and the smoothness of operation is impressive. I decided I didn't need any additional side support and just bought the FR3 as designed. It was so nice being able to just install my Manfrotto RC2 quick release plates (ok... technically they are 200PL-14 plates) so I didn't have to switch everything over to Arca Swiss and buy a new tripod head so I could buy an existing L bracket from one of the fine companies that make them. This bracket solves two problems for me... getting from horizontal to vertical when the camera is on a tripod and rotating the flash at the same time.

I realize I just have a G12 but anyone using an external flash and/or a tripod will have the same issues.

On a personal note... Robert couldn't be nicer. We discussed photography and life in general. He's a very interesting man, who has been around the block a few times, like so many of us. While we were chatting, he had to make a small modification to the FR3 to accommodate my G12 since it isn't as wide as the cameras for whom it is usually purchased. He immediately knew what to do to allow me to center my camera under the flash and took around 5 minutes to accomplish it. It's always fun to be around creative people who can put that creativity to practical use. Robert strikes me as that type of person. I enjoyed our chat and am very impressed with his new FR3.

I'm not what I would call a "pro", but I am saving my pennies for the Newton bracket based on Wilt's recommendation and my opinion of the product from his site. Everything I've heard about this bracket has been good.

Off topic note, Jerry Kacey makes an awesome beauty dish and is great to work with as well! :-)
