Did a quick search and couldn't find my the answer I was looking for, but I thought I read in a thread here that you could use the hood for the 35L on the 135L. Is this true? I use hoods mainly for protection and understand that it won't function properly as the real hood would in keeping out light.

Thanks!

Interesting.. hopefully somebody will post before me but I'll check later this evening with my 35L and 135L to see if the hoods are interchangeable.

I actually like the barrel hoods more b/c they can stand up on a table lens-face down haha. Do people prefer petal hoods more b/c of more shade/less vignetting? But then the 35L wouldn't really more be effective on the 135 in that regard.

personally I think petal hoods look cooler, but it's function that counts, I don't like changing what Canon sees is the best hood for a particular lens.

Yes they interchange. I used the 35 hood on my 135 to keep the overall length down to better fit my camera bag.

Well I can see how this would be great for making the 135L look more discrete. Also good for saving space in the camera bag. (135L hood is a monster.)

I use the 35L hood on my 135L. Saves a bit of space in the bag.

I also use the 35L hood on the 135L... but not the opposite!

The problem is that the 135L hood is made to suit the narrow angle of view of the 135mm FL (16 degrees), while the 35L hood has to be short enough to permit the much wider AOV needed by the 35mm FL (63 degrees), which is why the 35L hood has cutouts and forms the 'petal' where it would vignette the photo. So while the 35L hood fits, it does not protect as well from stray light striking the front element of the telephoto lens!

I have both. I only bring the 35L hood. As troy said, it saves a lot of space in my bag plus it looks cooler.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I got the information I needed. I wanted a smaller profile for my 135 so this should do well.

Thanks again!
