I just picked up a tripod from Ebay http://www.ebay.ca …_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 (external link) I decided to get the Markins Q3 ball head and have committed to one.Upon further research I find there is a traveler version of this head that has a little narrower base that fits the tripod better.Should I go to the trouble of getting the traveler version or would the normal Q3 be fine?Does anyone have pics to show how it looks on this tripod? If it looks ok,I would be happy to stick with it as is........I think I got a good deal on the tripod?
Thanks Dave

You dont really need to worry. The Q3T was more for the 1541T whose legs folded up and over and back onto the ballhead. The slimness of the Q3T made the slimness a bit more. I havent seen how the Q3 looks and fits on the 1531 but functionally Im sure it will work just fine.

Thanks.....yea,I think it will be fine, dug up this pic of a q3 on a gt1541 which I think would be the same as far as the base of the tripod goes.

I got the tripod delivered, picked up a used Q3,but still waiting on a plate for my camera. My initial impressions without actually having taken a photo is favorable.I like the way the head looks and feels on the tripod, compared to my old Manfrotto 190/498rc2 its much lighter and stands a fair bit taller.I am 5-11 and the height is PERFECT for me,my old tripod was about 5 inches too short. This will be my only tripod so it will be a compromise of lightness vs stability, for me it looks like a good match. The heaviest setup I will throw at it will be my 7d,Sigma 50-150 F/2.8,with a 1.4x converter and Q3 for a total of 4.25lbs,well within the 17.6lbs load max.Total weight with head was exactly 3.5 lbs, very light considering its load capacity.I went with the 3 section setup for more stability over the 4 section T version, but on the flip side this thing is fairly long at 27.5" with the ballhead folded up.So far so good, now I got to find a nice fitting bag!
