Just realised it's been over 2 years since I first attempted planetary imaging. Been tinkering around with my gear and had a crack at Jupiter again the other night.

The colour may be a little off on this, but not worth me spending too much time on it. Anyone know what has caused the square pixelation, looks like the Bayer matrix showing up? Camera is DBK21 and was using a 2.5x powermate on 10" Newtonian. I have a 5x on order for better image scale.

Shot using the Y800 codec, so it appears B&W on screen and pixelated. Had some fun and games trying to get colour balance right. Tweaked the channels so that none were saturating and all approximately similar levels during capture. Still, K3CCDTools was dropping a lot of frames.

Processed in Registax 6, but followed this v5 tutorial as closely as I could: http://stargazerslounge.com …-colour-cam-tutorial.html (external link)

The resulting image was far from correct colour balance, so adjusted as best I could.

i cant give much advice, im struggling myself with this big gas blob, are you using k3 instead if ic capture? i think the latter has color temp controls, i use wxastro which is average at best. icenspace forums uses alot of DBK cameras, id check it out there. i think your codec is right, im not sure which is best for the color matrix though (camera or computer) dont know why its pixelated, mine usually ends up over sharpened to bring out 'non-exsistant' detail- LOL, i use a guaissan blur then to smoothe the image, i use R5 and usually change the FTP filter before i start, i never had luck R6 and never could do a realign with it- i adjusted the colors and blurred this is PS a little, that smaller storm or whatever it has still had an odd color, but you could change that too

I used IC Capture to manually adjust the red and blue channels because in ICC you can see the RGB histograms individually, whereas K3 only shows combined. But I found the K3 image capture easier so used that for the actual acquisition.

Thanks for the help and repro. Looks nicer. Will have a play with it too.
