8:10 Wednesday (EST) - Time in New York, NY, USA

9:10 Wednesday (AST) - Time in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

23:40 Wednesday (CST) - Time in Adelaide SA

Seems Adelaide is the only one with a 30 minute off-set :D :D !!

I'd say it was almost bedtime but some may then accuse me of being an "Old man"

Ah, but Newfy's have their own time zone:

Ah.....

So they're on the 1/2 hour offset (from GMT) too !!

There's only a handful of places in the world that run a 30 minute offset, Adelaide being one of them !

With Australia being (around) the same width as USA / Canada we have several time-zones too, but trouble is not all of them observe daylight saving time !

Right now around Australia ...............

0:08 Thursday (EST) - Time in Brisbane QLD*
1:08 Thursday (EST) - Time in Sydney NSW
0:38 Thursday (CST) - Time in Broken Hill NSW (Broken Hill is in NSW, but they use SA time !! )
1:08 Thursday (EST) - Time in Canberra ACT
1:08 Thursday (EST) - Time in Melbourne VIC
1:08 Thursday (EST) - Time in Hobart TAS
0:38 Thursday (CST) - Time in Adelaide SA
22:08 Wednesday (WST) - Time in Perth WA
23:38 Wednesday (CST) - Time in Darwin NT <==Northern Territory is directly north of us and also has a 30-minute offset. In winter they are on the same time as us, but in summer they do not observe daylight saving !

It was said that Queensland never got daylight saving as they once had a (cranky old) premier there who reckoned that the sun shone out of his bum and he wasn't getting up half-an-hour earlier for anyone !!

" Joh's catchphrase answer to unwelcome [media] queries, "Don't you worry about that," was widely parodied. Peterson was known to refer to this process of patronising journalists as "feeding the chooks"."

I sense an assassination coup on the thread.

That has to be the most boring off-topic i've ever read in here.

So let me just throw a photo in and see if we can make this interesting again.

Oooh, looking at it some more, i may black out the arm and just have the hair floating, that might be cool. Interesting.

Is it bad to say that I actually quite like it the way it is !!

I like that she has a standing in your face pose, really does it for me......

IMHO !!!

Cheers,

Austen.

HI Austen,

I tried to reply to your PM but your inbox is full.

You asked about the 135 wide angle reflector. Many websites including Elinchrom's has wrong specifications. The wide angle reflector has a 135 degree angle of coverage, not 90 degrees.

If I have some time today I'll do a comparison between the mini and maxi deflector in the wide angle reflector.

*Blush* ...............

Thanks for that info Rob, and it's the Holiday season, this is a job that can surely wait until the New Year !!

Have a great Christmas,

Austen.

Rob - out of curiousity did you ever test the solid white translucent deflectors in comparison to the silver deflectors for background lighting? I imagine that both would knock down the hotspot fairly well.

The reason I ask is that I'm considering the Varistar reflector but only have one silver deflector and a couple of the white deflectors. Just wondering if it would be worth it to pick up another deflector set when I submit my order.

Thanks!

Hi Sheldon,

Unfortunately, in this application the white translucent deflector is no better than placing a square of toilet paper in front of the flash tube. It does practically nothing. You really need the 100% opaque deflector to equalize the center hot spot and area surrounding it.

Rob, i believe i've asked you this before, but do you normally use the deflectors in convex or concave style? Ie with the bulge towards or away from the flash tube?

Hey Case,

Technically, I don't think there is a right and wrong but I do know that the intended configuration and the one I use is as a convex deflector.

I've tried a few different modifiers with the deflector reversed and either didn't notice a difference of didn't like what I saw. That was enough for me to stick to the convex configuration.

I'm up. You want to make something of it? ;)

Ouch, only 5 hours of sleep? I'd be worthless.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure I'm that much better after 8 hours either. :)

Agreed, we need to move on from discussing time zones and sleep habits.

So let me just throw a photo in and see if we can make this interesting again.

Very nice image, I like the concept! I realize this is totally subjective, but my initial reaction was that the mask on the side should be horizontal rather than pointing upwards.

Drat, just what I feared. There's another $30 into the B&H Shopping cart. :)

Thanks for the feedback Rob.

Thanks guys.

Considering how much of my stuff ends up in B&W, i really should consider Nik Silver, but does it do anything the normal B&W Adjustment layer in PS does not do already?
