Not sure how a light meter and SOOC comes into play...but I did use a light meter.

I am not too sure myself, but after tons of recommendations, I am considering a light meter soon! That is why I wondered if these were taken with just the camera's default meter, or an external meter to get the correct exposure when using flash. Thank you for your time, and help!

When people talk about SOOC they are usually referring to post processing.

I wish I would have got the meter a long time ago. It really helps.

+1, SOOC = straight out of camera, e.g. no post processing is done to the image. It has nothing to do with the lightning used. Get the meter, it helps a ton. And get that mount fixed.

OIC, I guess I assumed I could use that term in any form of photography, but now I see how it could sound confusing! I do need to do more work both on terminology, and photography! I cannot even begin to understand histograms, or post processing! It is way to taxing to even begin, however my time on forums seems unlimited! :o:oops:
Thank you again, for your time, and information!

:o I am so close to doing so, I lag to much, mostly because I just don't know if I could afford to do so, plus, the whole process would seem to be a waste for me since I seem to suck at this! I think for the price I paid for the strobe, plus fixing it, I could sell it and buy an affordable equivalent, or even another fully function Elinchrom from ebay!:o

Do what you think is right, but using broken equipment is not good idea.

Can we still post pics in here???? ;)

You can certainly and the cake looks great. However, it would look even better if the piece had been cut more carefully...

It's really weird how some people react to not-over-the-top-positive critique.

I am not reacting to a not over the top critique, I am reacting to a silly comment in a lighting forum. Now if you would like to jump over in the food photography forum and post the same comment I would probably reply with:

I was just messing around in my garage (studio) with my Elinchrom lights and I had a piece of pie on hand. So going out and hiring a food stylest was out of the question.

I would have also said that I planned on eating the pie so I didn't really feel the need to be crazy careful cutting it.....

.......... however my time on forums seems unlimited!:oops:......

Could I respectfully suggest you use some of your "unlimited" time to research / watch YouTube videos / read books / practice and other such self-educational pass-times ?

IMHO, Forums, like POTN and many, many others, are full of people who will give you all the help in the world, but quite obviously don't appreciate doing your work for you.

When I have an issue that needs assistance, I try to frame my question in a format similar to this..........

I am trying to achieve xxxxxx, I checked these sources xxxx and xxxx and xxxx yet something doesn't seem right.

To see if xxxx was my problem I xxxx and then xxxx and even tried xxxx, all to no avail.

Google is pretty adamant that xxxx should fix my problem yet no matter what I do I cannot get the results I want.

Here (sample) is my result, I am trying to achieve something like this (sample).

Posting requests for help in this format always seems to see me inundated with help, forum members can see what I want to do, what I have done, what I am trying to achieve, and most importantly, that I am not expecting them to do all the work for me.

YMMV.

AUsten.

I just want to take nice photographs of people.
