You should look up feathering the light. There were good videos by Dean Collins I think, but I can't find them now. ?!

Hell ya you can do that. I love small modifiers and contrast, you just gotta figure out the sweet spot for distance to subject and then, as Oskar says, feather the light.

Let's stop feeding the useless posts and talk about Elinchrom again. :)

I will start. Anyone use the Ranger RX system in studio and does it affect battery lifespan if you continuously run it while plugged into the charger? I thought I remember somewhere that the batteries in the Ranger RX AS do not exhibit memory effect.

I have noticed i get fewer shots off my ranger rx from a full charge when i'm shooting outdoors, guessing around 150 clicks max and not even going higher than 5.0 power. it would just shut down. although when im at home shooting or outdoors where i have an option to use the charger in long shoots it seems to be okay. sorry my english sucks and kinda tipsy. is this a common problem?

aside from that anyone having issues about the beep when it's ready? mine went from normal beep to a very faint beep.

Is this some kind of back drop in the BG or a studio?

Aressem wrote in post #14500892 (external link)
Incredible! I'm only able to see this on my phone (at work) at the moment but is any of this a composite bg?

sorry for late reply..

this was shot on location. its a ruin with a big tree in it. im not really good at photoshop so compositing is not something that i can do.

thanks for the kind words. :)

I know I am going to open the worlds biggest can of worms here, but I would like your opinion as to weather shoot through, reflective, or softboxes should be used for school portraits?

If I go the umbrella route how do I attach them to my D-Lite 2's?

Thanks! :D

What ever really suits you the best. What I remember from school portraits most years it was just simple 1 strobe with reflective umbrella for headshots and natural light outdoors for class pictures. :)

edit - I guess just keep to the idea of keep it stupid simple

there is a hole for the rod to slide into on the strobe.

Simple but effective sounds like the right idea, I just don't want to have the colour in the I ages looking wrong then have to correct them all before they are uploaded, would a 1/2 CTO help?

Hmm.. I've never noticed, will pull a light out and double check it! :D

Anyone in here know of a good hotshoe-to-elinchrom adapter for use of my modifiers? Desperately looking for a couple.

Eh? Blast that D-lite on full power, don't use the ambient at all and you will not have problems with colour mixing. :)

Or if you don't have a 7mm shaft on the umbrella, there is a bracket that is next to the handle that adjusts the head relative to the spigot.

Kill the ambient, as has been said. Be sure and use a WB target.
