I am planning to purchase my first Elinchrom unit and had a few questions. I'd be very grateful for any help/advice.

1) Is the $999.99 price listed on Adorama for the "Ranger RX Speed AS" legitimate? Are there any catches to that? (Missing components, etc.?)

2) Are the Ranger Free Lite S-Head the same as the one included in their kits?

3) Is there a more affordable solution for Hypersync besides Pocket Wizards? One caveat to this is that I don't want to skimp on reliability.

999.99 is a great price, I'd call Adorama and have them answer your questions regarding missing parts.

There are Free Lite A-heads and Free Lite S-heads. The A-head has a shorter flash duration.

I had zero success getting hypersync to work with the Pocket Wizards, I tried with both my A-heads and S-heads.

This. The other day I had random misfires. I asked the guy I was shooting, do you have an iPhone by any chance........... yeah.

Anyway, has anyone here used Profoto softboxes alongside their elinchrom softboxes? Any ideas if the colour temps are close? I'm not forking out for the overpriced rotalux strips and lighttools grids, the profoto stuff is much cheaper over here.

Prices are a joke aren't they. Elinchrom will be forced to adapt soon enough.

They're close but the Elinchrom Rotalux softboxes are slightly warmer.

Are they that different? Comparing Profoto and Elinchrom in the UK they seem to be about the same across the board, although at least with Profoto you can get grids for every softbox they make (they're not as nicely made as Elinchrom's but they're cheaper and don't require disassembling the softbox to fit).
