I wonder if booming it with a E700 would change the amount of stress the Quadra adapter endures at all.

My logic would point me to, no, as the stress is taken off the swivel not the front mount, but i would really need a Quadra adapter to see what its weakpoints are.

Not really a killer deal, I don't think. Probably fair market value right now. Lots on ebay have sold for between $1400-1500, but that's always a gamble as a buyer.

On the 5D, I didn't like the outer AF points, didn't like the soft/unresponsive shutter button, the long mirror blackout time, just general shooting performance.

5D sounds like:
Cah...............clunk.

1Ds II sounds like:
Ca-chee!! (and you're ready to fire another frame)

What sealed the deal for me was shooting an event last weekend, just way too many AF misses compared to what I'm used to.

I went back and looked through my old 1Ds II files (I had one a couple years ago) and it really did well in a variety of difficult shooting situations. Quirky interface, crappy little LCD, slow to replay images, but it can SHOOT!

And the files are awesome.

maybe I'll get a 1Ds II next year instead of a 5DII... The 1Ds series has always intrigued me.... maybe its just because its the "top-of-the-line" model...

I have sent to Sylvester (in the UK) before and I believe the package arrived in decent condition.
PM me if you want me to go to a local shop and pick one up for you and send it over.

Dennis - you can't receive any more PM's till you delete some :)

I boom the 175cm (69") Octa without any problem.

I was only thinking in terms of just using the quadra adapter alone.

I don't have any experience with the Quadra adapter

It is very weak, it bends and twists under weight. :(

This is it, Geoff. It moves fast but there's lots of Fireball goodness here.
I don't think the general public would appreciate as much as we do. ;)

Hi guys,

Quick question. :)

Can the Rotalux Softbox Octa 135 cm and 175 cm be mounted on a Ranger Quadra Adapter? Or are they too heavy?

The brochure says I can only use up to 100cm on the adapter but at the shop in london they say I can use them just with caution as they're heavy.

Do they even use that same ring that is on the 100cm deep octa, which looks like this:
http://www.aj-s.co.uk …rgeimages/product_504.jpg (external link)

I say that the 135 and 100 DO are both fine for the Quadra adapter. I would not trust the 175 Rotalux on the Quadra adapter in anything but a very careful indoor environment.

I find the light from the 100 DO to be quite different from the 135 Octa. The rods are the same length, but the surface area/coverage of the two modifiers is different.

Or you could always get the 190 EL Octa. :)

Sylvester XxX wrote in post #13439641 (external link)
The 175 (69 octa) is big and I would not boom the 175 with the quadra adapter. In an environment with no wind and upright it should be okayish.

I would say the 135 and 100 deep are different enough to not be interchangeable with the 135 being more versatile.

The 135 is fine on the quadra.

+1

You could get a 1D IIN or something like that to play with for a few months. See if you like the AF speed/responsiveness/size/user interface and then sell it and spring for a 1Ds II if you really like it.
