My 3rd game. This is my second attempt at back button focusing though. Not a whole lot of keepers, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. These are shot from the courtside student seats with my XTi and 100mm 2.8 macro. Had to get to the game really early to get this seat. C&C appreciated. Any techniques would be great as well. They are a bit noisy... body upgrade will hopefully come sooner than later.

Thinking about getting a Sigma 70-200 2.8 for b-ball. Thoughts? I really love the sharpness and nice color/contrast of the macro... I'd hate to lose too much of that in zoom. But gaining quicker, more precise AF would be nice.

I like these shots and about the zoom, thing about what shots you weren't able to get with this lens and see if the extra range would help you get those shots. If yes then sure go for the lens, if no, keep the 100mm and keep going, these look good!

These do look good. Watch your horizons. The sigma has good contrast...maybe not up to the 100, but still nice contrast. But with that said it looks like the 100 is working out really good at your seat location...you just need to work on your framing on a few of them.

With that said...look at picking up a used 70-200L, non-IS. The AF is quicker then the sigma, and even the original version is sharp.
