We get a lot of cloudy days here in Oregon as well. A judicious use of flash can really help, clouds or no.
Although, and please don't tell anyone (!!), it very rarely rains here from about mid-June through late-September.

On another note, I guess I've been lucky with the Visa thing, too. Of the 35 countries I've visited, I've only had to get a Visa for Japan and India.

Yes I can see the kind of weather you have from your portfolio, some good shots, but there's a different look to those than the SoCal photographers. There's nothing wrong with your work or flash, but they still don't look the SAME and someone with your level of skill surely understands that, and the reason why?
