Annie leibovitz was on NBC nightly news tonight. When asked what camera she recommends, she answered that she always tells her friends to use an iPhone. Guess I'll sell the Canons.

When she dies, her used clothing will sell for more than my car is worth, so, sure, she could use anything.

I posted a link to a Leibovitz interview some time ago, but unfortunately it wasn't allowed to be shown outside Oz. Leibovitz made a big name with what she called off-moments, which I look for intensely since she made the comment--she talks about this at length in the interview. In the "Iphone" interview she says, "...It's an interesting time, it's a great time because of the iPhone, and the whole ability to just use...I mean that is the snapshot camera of today..."
My view is that Leibovitz places great emphasis at being in the right place at the right time to capture the moment -- or the off-moment, like the marines rolling up the carpet after the president left shot.

Agreed. The iPhone is readily available and easy to use. Here's a video (external link) of the short interview, and the shot she took with her finger covering part of the picture (of the easy-to-use iphone) is at the 40 second mark. ;)

Just don't ask her for financial advise.

Yep, and given her circumstances, she may well have set that up so Apple would toss some cash at her. And I don't think she was trying to be funny. AL has absolutely no sense of humor-in her books, in her interviews, in her interactions with her subjects. (at least the ones I've seen on YouTube.)

Grrrr....

She never even used those words, her point was that it was easy, accessible, and useful as part of a feature set.

What is with all the elitism on these forums??? =(

As a former Apple contractor, I can assure you that Apple didn't use to pay for this sort of stuff. Can you imagine what she would have charged?!?!?!? She's Liebovitz !

I finally saw an iPhone take a flash shot. They light the back screen at full working level and then hit it with a short blast of high energy. Pretty amazing light source considering. Auto focus. And then you get everything else; communication, web, phone, video, audio. If it wasn't $400 and $100 a month I might have one.

It was $200 for me, and just $40 a month for unlimited everything. (gotta love the military-family plan! lol)

Wonder what she got paid by Apple to say that people should use iPhones. It must have been a big pile of cash. :(

There ARE other manufacturers which produces better quality cameraphones such as Nokia with their N8 cameraphone. But people seem to forget that and instead recommend the already overhyped iPhone.

Agreed.. She probably hasn't used an iPhone before, if you look closely she captured her hand in the photo.
Besides that she took it even further pointing out what an iPhone is, besides its photo capabilities.
Don't get me wrong iPhone 4S can produce good photos. I say that because I own one and I'm quite happy with its photo/video capabilities and the fast FPS for a mobile!
