Unfortunately, that is often the case. I can say that I've not noticed flaws in many of my photos, but as you begin to notice these things, you get better at correcting them before pressing the shutter button. If this was a planned shot, you should have checked your photo before moving on so that you could ask them to do it again while you find a better angle to frame them.
