I know there's a real estate thread but this is a pricing question.

I have an opportunity to market to about 25 builder/developers who are either already in the process of building new communities or will be soon. I have an in with all of them and have met with some of them already about what they're doing.

It seems like (at least) some of them I've already met with are morer than happy to speak with me about shooting their communities for their marketing materials, etc. My question is, what kind of potential pricing am imlooking at for this sort of thing? I was thinking of charging my day rate since it'll take more than the time it takes to shoot just one property to shoot the community as well as models. Or do I look at this differently--as in it's a marketing cost for them and charge more? They'll use this in marketing, PR and anything else they can think of.

Just thinking this through before I go and ask for the business if you know what I mean.

Thanks.

Is there any way for you to find out the approximate price range for real estate photographers in your area? Hypothetically, if other photographers are charging say $100 (easy number) and you decided to charge $130. You will need to justify your 30% above-average pricing. This will provide you with a benchmark to work from.

Shooting a development will probably be a fairly large process. You were right in saying that it'll take more time - most of the housing will likely be the same, but it'll take more time shooting the environmental shots and amenities.

I would go with a day rate (calculated using your daily cost of doing business + profit margin), with a price per km or mile or hour of travel.
You may need to go back to a specific site more than once.

It's a long story but it's not local to me and I'm not looking to do one-offs if you know what I mean. This is for new large developments. There isn't anyone doing that type of photography...at least not regularly.

That's what I was thinking. Just wasn't sure if I'd be short changing myself or getting out of line with pricing.

Thanks.
