Actually it's very simple, you just have to screw-in the wide angle adaptor ring (77mm) into the B+W filter (77mm) which is already mounted on the 17-40. Then you can simply mount the lee foundation kit. The only problem with a normal polarizer like the B+W is that once you have mounted the foundation kit you can't no longer rotate the polarizer.

So, in order, the first thing to do is:

- to set the polarizer as you like
- then screw-in the the wide angle ring on the polarizer
- And finally fix the foundation kit on the adaptor ring:

Right now I don't have my camera with me but as soon as I can I'll take a picture of the whole system mounted on the 17-40

I'm assuming you are not using the "slim" filter for your polarizer then? If you aren't using the slim, do you get vignetting at 17mm?

I kind of assumed this was the set-up but no one has ever clearly explained it. Thank you very much. I just need to get a polarizer then and I'm good to go
