it really helps over exposing the shot. So if your shooting 1/100 at iso160 sometimes i got better results shooting 1/100 at 3200
the noise reduction in LR3 is great!:)

True, true.. Either way there will be noise if you bump up the exposure in LR or CS5 so might as well have it where it's 'natural noise' if that even makes sense.

Ooooh ok yeah well if I have to use anything above 1600 I'm skeptical but anything above 3200 and I don't even bother taking the picture ;)

Yeah, but 1600 on the 7D isn't equal to 1600 on the 1D2. He's still losing a few stops, sometimes higher ISO's aren't ideal, but a well exposed shot at 3200 is going to be better than an underexposed shot at 1600. So it can be nice to have. :)

It's what I use, it's about as good as it gets, there are some other plugins that some people will argue are better, but is it worth the price of the plugin? Generally no.

I'm sure it's a good camera, but he was already regretting it some before he even shipped out his 7D. :p

The 1D2 will be good because he can get in water shots, but any of the surf shooting he does from the beach is going to suffer, he loses the extra reach of the 7D and can't really afford to crop much.

Although really 8MP isn't terrible, I came from a D40 which has 6.

I have figured that out recently but I'm still learning with all the camera stuff. Not necessarily camera stuff but ISO charts and what not always confuse the hell out of me. I know that the higher the ISO the brighter the image but the noiser it gets but when it starts getting into technicalities that's when I get confused.

set your ISO to "A" :) :p but really with the plug-ins and LR it really doesn't matter

I just wing it :p

Noise just comes from when the camera is more or less guessing at what it's seeing in the dark, this comes from underexposing and having to really boost levels, or shooting at the higher limit of your ISO on your camera to where you are really pushing the boundaries.

Just make sure your shots are exposed properly, erring on the side of overexposed when it's darker, and you'll be alright.

generally i rely on the meter in the camera..... (not just on it but to get a general idea) i normally know what i want my SS and aperture to be at so ill put the ISO where i need it to be to make the shot happen I have no problem shooting at 1600 ever even in direct sun (not that i need to)

Yeah, that's what I do.

For most things Aperture is set first, then Shutter Speed and ISO to fit what I need. If I really need more light or if it's super bright out I'll adjust shutter speed to help out as well, but yeah. I need to remember more often that when I check the histogram on my camera it's generally shifted further right than it is once the shot is imported into LR.

Screw a grey card, get a Color Checker!

I've always loved my color checker... but I love it even more after doing all of those headshots for work... The one I bought for work saved me so much time.
