Screw a grey card, get a Color Checker!

I've always loved my color checker... but I love it even more after doing all of those headshots for work... The one I bought for work saved me so much time.

expensive! how do they work? never looked into them

I'm trying a new work flow with layers and masking in PS but, it's far from done. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

They are a bit expensive, although nicer grey cards cost quite a bit.

The website explains it better than I do.

Basically you have 3 "pages" in the passport, a grey card for white balance, a color checker and then an "enhancement" target.

Generally I just use the Color checker and grey card, I'm not entirely sure what the enhancement target is all for.

But grey card is really for in camera white balance, the color check you take a picture of, and then upload a DNG version of that picture into either it's plug in or stand alone software and it analyzes the photo and creates a custom camera profile for that series of shots.

set your ISO to "A" :) :p but really with the plug-ins and LR it really doesn't matter

I mean I know how to use ISO properly, but it's when people talk about max. and min. ISO's and boost and what not and I just don't know... I do know how to properly use ISO though I'm not that much of a noob :p

I get confused when they start talking about pushing ISO and true ISO's and stuff like that

Ah.. yeah well that is quite a bit cheaper. :p

The color checker is really nice when you are doing a shoot with consistent conditions, outside of that the grey card is more useful than anything. It's nice to have though. :)

This is an older shot right? I remember you posting it before. Do you have the old edit still?

It's looking good. :D

This is the older shot. This was shot right after the sun went down. You can see that some clouds rolled in and gave me that magic light. I'm just messing around with layers, masking, and luminosity stuff. :)
