I've been wanting to get into Astrophotography for awhile now. I always loved looking at stars when I was younger and still do today. I need help on what kind of telescope I would/should get. I'm looking to spend no more then $1500, and I know the saying "You get what you pay for". I was told that I would need a t-ring and t-adapter, I have a 5D Classic. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jason

For astrophotography within that budget, look for an ED80 apochromatic refractor, a good one should set you back about $800. The telescope is not the only thing you need, the mount is even more important than the telescope to ensure that you get accurate tracking.

There are still some of those Meade 6" Schmidt-Newtonians on LXD-75 mounts floating around. I think Meade even has a few "New in box" on their closeout site. That should get you started well under budget. The LXD-75 is knocked for being way undersized for the SN10-AT and even the 8" version Meade sold, but it should be very well suited for the 6". I was even toying with the idea of getting one of the mounts for my old Meade 645 Newtonian for imaging purposes.

The downside is that since the LXD-75 is officially discontinued, they don't support it anymore. But if you're looking for a fast, rich-field imaging scope, the SN6 has a nice rep. If you want to go with a refractor, then the ED80 as mentioned above is your best bet.

Not sure if you are still in market for the telescope, but listening to Jblaschke, I have seen that telescope on sale recently at a local telescope shop that do sell on line too. Price is unbelievable and actually I was tempted to get one, may be using as guidoscope but guess its too heavy for that purpose though quit light to be use as freestanding telescope. on my 12 inch. Here is the

I have seen many good reviews on this 6".

Also look at ebay for an 8" LX200. You should be able to find one in your quoted price range including AutoStar and may be GPS.
