As this week's paper was being laid out, a gaping hole needed filling. A match was chosen at the last minute and I did my best in the circumstances. Some of these are shot at 1/250s... and one of them is at 1/80s... luvly jubbly ;)

Skipping through the tackles...

Remember to pan a little when shooting at 1/250s...

EDIT: Just to add a little bit of technical bumph... all shot at ISO3200 with the 300mm f/2.8L on the 1D MkII - post-processing kept to a minimum.

Great shots under very difficult conditions.

Cheers,

Simon.

Thanks Simon... Now that 'winter' is pretty much upon us, it's going to be like this for the next few months  What joy! Trying to squeeze every last drop of performance out of the camera - and hoping that the players will stand still for a split-second ;)

Perhaps better than Croasdail but hardly your best ... my smile didn't even break into a laugh. Say, if I don't buy a rain break for my camera I don't have to shoot in the drizzlies, do I?

 I love shooting in the drizzlies.

I have to agree that these are pretty pants though.

However, they were just trying to illustrate that it is possible to 'survive' in dreadful conditions... there are certain shots that aren't completely ruined by motion blur even at 1/250s. It's just a case of picking your moment.

When confronted with a job like this, it's always nice to be able to submit something to the editor that I wouldn't be embarrassed to see in print!

Mark, I was hoping you'd see that! :-) I'd thought you'd appreciate the association.

Gavin, yes, I love getting the little "fantastic" notes back from the photo editors.
