I wonder if any of you might know what birds these might be, or at least suggest something, so I can look them up for comparison! These are both from rural Dorset:

Small, approximately robin-sized birds that roost individually, scattered around open fields, down amongst the grass. They only become apparent when disturbed, and fly off. No obvious distinctive markings.

A flock of approximately pigeon-sized birds, with distinctive pointed woodpecker-like wings, and white undersides. They congregate in quite high numbers on the ground, in ploughed/bare fields.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Mike

My guess would be Meadow Pipit.

Hmmm, if these are only around in winter then I reckon they're most likely to be Fieldfare.

Thanks Frank :-)

I'll have a look on the RSPB site and compare!
