Hey everyone, hoping I can get some input and advice.

A friend of mine is in town from Europe, and she is having a hard time getting photos done over there. Everyone wants to charge her to take "posing and modeling classes" before they will even let her sit for photos. She is going to be stateside for a couple of weeks, and asked if I could do some photos of her just to help her get her foot in the door.

Modeling type shots are not generally my thing -- 90% of what I do is performing arts and music, so we are not even allowed to use a flash there, thus, I don't have much lighting equipment. I told my friend I would help her, but it is not my thing. I'd like to do the best job I can do, so, I come here seeking some advice. Here is my lighting equipment:

4x CFL white light clip-on lamps
Sphere diffuser
Hot shoe core
580EX II
Tripod
A friend to hold lights

I'm thinking I could buy some construction paper to use as fill cards, and possibly make some other DIY diffuser stuff. I have an idea on posing just from looking at all the photos on here, and I also plan to do some outdoor natural light shots, which I don't have a problem with (done senior/prom portraits for friends/family in this manner in the past, photos came out great). More concerned about lighting for indoor stuff. I'm not totally clueless on light and flash, I'm just not sure how to best optimize my limited equipment. Any links or advice you could throw my way would be appreciated

Use window light or bounce the flash off a wall.

Neil made the lightbulb go off in my head (no pun intended)..

Thanks for the advice Rene', I just got my 430 exii over the weekend and was playing with the off camera flash, but was not getting the look I wanted bouncing off the ceiling, too bright.

Now I understand better the directional bounce off other walls...Makes me think of playing billiards now to get different effects.

Depending on where you are, another option might be to set her up for a shoot with someone here who does have all the lighting gear and would be willing to do it for TFP.
