The 10D is OLD, even moving up to a 30D would seem like a big improvement!

Forget the whole "professional" thing. There are pros shooting with 1DIV and others shooting with 40Ds, so it is quite irrelevant. Look at your budget, what you want to shoot, and pick the best camera for the job. A camera is a tool just like a lens, nothing more.

While I love the 5D and would recommend it to alot of people it might not be the best tool for you. If you like wildlife you might want to stick to some sort of crop sensor camera, either a 40D/50D/60D/7D or one of the 1D series cameras. Don't worry about megapixels, look at high ISO performance (noise levels) instead. Do some comparing on dpreview.com

Canon 60D, 30D

I have. And to be honest, it is overwhelming. All of them "feel" great because of the layout of the controls.

You go into the stores around here and they all say the more the megapixels, the better the photo. For me, I believe that there is more to it then that.

Take this for example, a 1DmkIIn only has something like 8 megapixels. The images it produces will be far higher quality than some 20 megapixel point and shoot. I don't even know how many megapixels my current bodies shoot (1dmk3 and 7d) because they are both sufficient for anything I need.

Further, depending on what you want to shoot:

Actiony sportsy stuff - 1Dmk_____ or a 7D
Portraits: 5Dmk______

Those are the top bodies in each respective category. Then it all goes down to preference in terms of weight, video/no video, battery types, crop sensors or full frame, etc.
