So I have a Slik Pro DX700 tripod with a Giottos ball head. The legs are super sturdy, but I'm at the point where the size and weight of them makes me not want to take them out very often. They're overkill for what I need.

I have T1i with all pretty basic lens kit (kit lens, 55-200, 50mm, and Sigma 10-20), so none of them are very heavy.

I'm also not that tall (5'7"), so I don't need a tripod thats going to get super high. Basically, I'm just looking for something that's still sturdy and will be smaller & lighter so that it's not such a task to take the tripod out shooting. I use it mostly for long exposure night shots.

Ideally, I'd like to either sell the legs and buy something of an equivalent price. Got any suggestions for me?

Update: I was looking at the Benro A-058M8 (external link) legs on Amazon. Does anyone know if these are the same as the Classic A0580F (external link)? It seems like this could be a good option (unless someone has a different suggestion), but I can't figure out if there is a difference between the 2. The Amazon listing is $52.97, compared to $83 on B&H.

twist lock vs flip (lever) lock.

I like overkill. Personally, I saved up for CF legs. If you like the Aluminum Benro's, maybe you can look at the A1580T (or older A-158m8), A2580T (A-258m8), or one of the 1 or 2-series Travel Angels. I think the 0-series tripods are too small.

ah! I hadn't noticed that. Guess I didn't look at the photos close enough. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into the others that you mentioned as well.

Is budget an issue? Otherwise as Klr suggested, I'd keep the Slik DX700 because it's hellofva tripod for the $. If you're gonna shoot long exposure, you'll need it. Otherwise, save up and get another tripod specifically for all around use. And that, I'd recommend Benro Travel Angel.
