Thank You Sir...

This will give an idea of the level of access we're granted. The deal is, stay off the white line! ;)

NAFEC is kind enough to do this with our AzAP group as well as APSoCal (similar bunch from Southern California .. we were co-mingled with them this time) and the also host Fence Check from time to time.

We're completely indebted to Michelle Dee who is the Public Affairs Officer at NAFEC (and also an AzAP member!)

You guys are so fortunate to get that type of access, meanwhile here in Oz you are considered a threat to national security when even thinking about taking pictures near a military base :( (before anybody brings it up I know that the security guys are only doing their job)

Phil

It's taken considerable effort to build the relationship but it has paid off in spades.

Us in more places actually... ;)

Visitors are welcome to join us at most events. However, major trips to El Centro and the Barry Goldwater range are often laid on in a matter of days.

In fact, Goldwater trips have been known to be "Hey, we're in for tomorrow, who's available?"

Our next "expected" trip to El Centro will probably be in February at about the point where the Blue Angels pass the 1/2 way point in their winter training and are willing to be publicly photographed.

Needless to say, that trip usually fills up in a matter of minutes once it's announced.

makes me think that now would be a good time to start petitioning the local airshow organizers to make provisions for photographers to shoot closer and from the other side of the airfield so we're not looking at the sun from way too far away all the time. I remember attending shows when I was alot younger that offered special passes for photographers.

If you have access to the right "ear" you might plant that seed now. Volunteer to lead the activities and you benefit from the better location(s) as well.

"Photo Pits" and "Photo Tours" are very popular money maker for airshows these days...
