If you have access to the right "ear" you might plant that seed now. Volunteer to lead the activities and you benefit from the better location(s) as well.

"Photo Pits" and "Photo Tours" are very popular money maker for airshows these days...

You're right. I think I'll talk to the museums manager and maybe try and get a name or two. We (the museum) have a long standing relationship with the airshow.

Come Again?

It's what we're there to experience. It's part and parcel of why we go there and it's fully sanctioned by the Public Affairs Office.

In fact, as he's fairly new to NAFEC, the base CO came out to see what we do and was, I'm told, suitably impressed with how we handled ourselves.

And we routinely remind people to back up if they continuously crowd the line.

We all "touch" the line when jockeying to get shots past and around other people and then we back off. One shot is not indicative of overall behavior.

Considering that this is a photography forum, shouldn't you have said "We Photographers...?" and not "You Photographers...?"
I guess you've never bent a rule or gone the extra inch to get a shot, huh?

Yeah, measuring things in inches seems to be a popular pastime on POTN of late...

But, I digress.

Conversions via judicious use of Nik Silver Effex Pro 2...

Like everything else, it starts with good light that allows the texture and details to read well and then it's a matter of choosing a base color filter which maximizes contrast (orange or red makes blue go darker), tweaking the contrast and "structure" levels for highlights, mid-tones and shadows and then sharpen to taste.

I often make a "screen" layer on top of the base B&W layer, mask it off and then go in with a very soft brush and enhance the prominent highlights. Some like to work with brush pressure and make multiple passes on the mask, but I prefer to use a set luminance level that I think will give me the result I want in one pass. If I miss, I just hit CTL+Z and adjust as necessary.

I'll do some selective burning and detail sharpening as well...

And Robert is your Father's Brother! :D
