We found out our 10 year old Tabby, Lucca, has terminal cancer a few months ago. She was given 3 months to live. We are about to send her off to cat heaven most likely after Thanksgiving, so we are just treasuring the remaining days we have with her and saying our goodbyes.

This is a very tough time for us, particularly my pregnant wife. She had Lucca even before I met her. I've had the pleasure of having Lucca in my life for the last 9 years. 9 years is a pretty long time.

But I knew this time would come. It's tough, but we as pet owners have to make the decision for these animals to prevent them from unnecessary suffering. Lucca has lost a lot of weight and she's eating less and less. It's time to let her go...

Here's Lucca from Spring 2011...just the way I prefer to remember her.

she is lovely in those photos, she looks like a kitten. Sorry you have that time coming that all of us as animal lovers dread.

Lots of love for Lucca now & forever (forever home really does mean that as they are in your heart forever). We are getting close with our little ginger girl, her kidneys aren’t working to well & she’s dropped a lot of weight & I know what you are going through.

Thank you all. It's tough, especially on my wife. We did the best we could to provide Lucca with a happy life. She had a good 10 year run.

Beautiful cat who indeed looks to have had a great run. First shot looks like the picture of health and contentment. What a great shot to always have, hold and remember.

Such a beautiful kitty...

Truly sorry to hear the situation Nick. Extra skritches and head bumps are in order.

God Bless little Lucca. Pets are Love covered in fur.

Thanks everyone.
It's 2:30am and I am thinking about the day.
I've never had to do this so I know it's going to be tough.
I am not sure that I want my very pregnant wife to go through the emotional stress at the vet.
It's going to be very tough the next few days knowing we are doing this.
I'm just going to spend some quality time with Lucca the next few days and maybe snap some photos of her too.

So sorry that it's almost time for you and your wife to say goodbye to Lucca, Nick....but that is one lovely looking kitty, so you have obviously been doing it right over the last 9 years. We'll be thinking about you.

(PS...LOVE the image of her peeping out of the box!)
