Helloooo guys, im traveling to Syria on saturday for 2 months, ive been there 4 times before and i have plenty of family there. I just purchased a Canon 60D with the 18-55 and 55-250 kit lens and i also have a tripod. As it is winter at the moment in Syria, it will be generaly over cast and not very sunny. It also tends to snow in higher altitude areas (where ill be spending most of my time). I was just wondering if any one could give me any advice/tips to shoot in these weather and light conditions :) any help appreciated

If it is cloudy/overcast that is great for doing portraits. It's like a giant softbox. :) I hate when the sun pokes out and messes with your exposure.

When shooting in cold weathers (freezing temps.), just know that your battery will drain FAST! Keep a spare battery with you. Also, when you're in freezing temps and quickly move to a warmer location, have your camera in a bag so that way the dramatic temperature change does not create too much condensation in the lens/camera.

For snow, adjust the setting to about 1.5 - 2 stops of overexposure and it'll look white.

Well, that would be a "conservative" amount of Exposure Compensation if the shooter is consciously metering/exposing for the snow. That's an important thing to understand. Let's say, though, that your "main subject" is a building or person or trees or whatever and there is snow in the area but the camera meter is "picking up" those darker subjects and wants to render them "medium". That actually may be a great exposure because the snow will then come out brighter. But if you just bump the EC/exposure to +2EV, then, well, you'll have problems with that snow:)!

haha funny how that works...right before I moved to Korea there was that whole thing of sinking ships and stuff and everyone in the west was in panic mode about a war getting ignited, to the point where I was reconsidering moving here...then I talked to a few people here and they couldn't have been more nonchalant about it. I moved here and people don't even talk about North Korea...ever. They simply don't care. I've read a few articles about stuff going on in South Korea in western media since I got here and I've seen stuff about how high tensions are across a heavily guarded border, etc, etc...the only time we hear about the DMZ (demilitarized zone between SK and NK) is when people go there on tours to take pictures haha

@LowriderS10 - on Netflix I wanted the documentary "Kimjongillia" it was very interesting about how weak of a state N.K. appears to be in. If you get a chance to watch it I'd be interested to know what you think!
