Hey guys!

I have several art galleries asking to put some of my work up. I want to make an impression, as I just started shooting a year ago.

I am looking into what it might take to create some backlit prints? I have some high-grade LED arrays that I can use to illuminate the photos.

Has anyone ever printed something like this?

I am also considering some transparencies where the whites are turned into alpha channels for printing clear.

If you've ever done any of this I would love to hear what you think and who you used for printing. There isn't much info on this stuff, especially for printing really large. 20x30in+

Here's the photos I am considering for print. If you look in my gallery, I am thinking the first two shots would look cool if backlit.

Thanks!
Johan

Look into:

  • Duratrans a Kodak-branded color transparency material which is the predecessor to
  • Kodak Professional Endura Transparency Optical Display Material

Duratrans has been around for over 30 years, and was the large format backlit display material used make monstrous color displays from film originals. It can be printed on by the digital-driven optical printing machines. Apart from the name of the stuff, I have zero experience in the newer Endura material.

Thanks for the info! I guess it would be smart of me to start ordering small test prints from various places to see where I want to dump my money. :)

I've seen backlit presentations like that but don't have any info. I agree they can be pretty cool!

I don't know where to look for the material for large prints. I used to work for HP and printed 8.5x11 prints on inkjet transparancies, but never heard of them offering larger sizes -- these were for presentations using projectors.
